County: Antrim
Image uploaded by user Ballylagan Organic Farm

Sorry we are not taking bookings for 2012 at present. Ballylagan Organic Farm in County Antrim was one of the pioneering organic farms in Northern Ireland. Today, with 100 acres, the business is still expanding and we currently produce beef, pork, chicken, duck, eggs and vegetables for sale through our farm shop. We are looking for individuals or groups of wwoofers [up to three in Spring/Summer and two the rest of the year] who are keen to experience a diverse farming life. New ideas and enthusiasm will go a long way! Modern, hostel style accommodation is adjacent to the farm house with all mod cons including internet connection, television as well as kitchen, shower room and lounge area. Much of what you eat will have been produced on the farm. We have a couple of bicycles for ventures into the nearby towns and villages. For longer journeys, public transport is available to Belfast, along the Antrim Coast and further afield. Tasks will involve weeding, fruit and veg picking, routine animal management and general farm maintenance. This is a perfect opportunity for those wanting a place to stay and work with a view to further exploring Ireland.

County: Armagh

Turcarra Farm is located in the Orchard County and is surrounded by apple trees and mature woodland. Brian is a Department of Agriculture vet and Mary has recently sold her business and is attempting to become a full time farmer embracing sustainability and organic farming, so needs help. We have 21 hectares and to encourage wildlife and conservation we are aiming to plant white and blackthorn hedgerows. We have an organic vegetable garden and several outhouses that require refurbishment. Part of this refurbishment is the construction of a reusable water supply by collecting rainfall from the farm buildings. We have 30 sheep about to lamb in April and need help! You will share a 1 in 4 rota of checking for lambing during the night in the barn beside our house. In return for your help we will treat you as part of our family. You will have your own room and have home-cooked meals and use of a bicycle thus giving you some independence. We have 3 teenage children and would welcome the idea of being introduced to a new language/culture. Mary loves cooking and loves new recipes. Our pets include blacky, our dog and 2 kittens.

County: Cavan
Image uploaded by user Lakeview Gardens and Organic Farm

Lakeview Gardens & Organic Farm are situated on the Cavan Meath border overlooking and around Mullagh Lake. The gardens are extensive, occasionally open to the public and provide flowers, fruit and vegetables all year round. Lakeview Farm has been farmed to organic standards since 1996 and we we strive to be as sustainable and self sufficient as possible with the environment and wildlife an important consideration. 60 hectares are in grassland and this supports a suckler herd which is predominantly Aberdeen Angus. There are also farmyard animals including pigs, horses and many types of poultry. 20 hectares of the farm are in commercial forestry, predominantly broadleaf, and there are paths throughout which are a great amenity with a hide by the lake edge for watching wildlife. Field boundaries are predominantly stone walls; traditional cleft larch fencing is also used in key locations. The village of Mullagh is nearby and there are regular buses to Dublin and elsewhere nearby. This is a beautiful place with lots of activity and opportunities! Image uploaded by user Jampa Ling Buddhist Centre.

We are a small community of Buddhist running a centre in a beautifully restored Victorian country house. The old walled garden of the property is used for growing vegetables and fruit. A qualified horticulturalist is in charge of the garden and available to advice and direct. We have ten acres of grounds, meadow and a lovely old woodland bordering onto a lake. We need volunteers to help in the vegetable area and in the woodland. Accommodation is comfortable and in the restored outbuildings of the property. The atmosphere at the centre is very friendly and relaxed and people are made very welcome. They can join in our daily Buddhist practises and meditation or not, there is no obligation. We serve vegetarian food, and there is an area for smoking outside, but alcohol and drugs, except for medication are not permitted. A small group of people live at the centre as residents. The village of Bawnboy is two kilometres away with one shop and two pubs! This a very unspoilt area of Ireland, and is where the Shannon river rises. The centre is in the Marble Arch Geo Park, which offers spectacular views and is an ideal area for hill walking.
